2K Hires Apex Legends Producer to Rescue Challenged Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Comes After Poor Feedback
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had indicated the requirement for a more defined game identity.
The president expressed that the team is now overhauling the project with a revised vision, aiming to address player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment
This announcement echoes a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock development group.

Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re eager for that relationship to continue.”
With your dedication and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a sharper identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the input to heart and revamped the title with a renewed vision - one that’s poised to fulfill its potential to our fans.
The belief in this project increases every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of the team. Following a period of discussions, he starts with us on the specified date.
Ben’s leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having devoted the recent years developing and leading some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in welcoming him next week. We are all looking forward to persist observing the evolution of the game in the time to ahead.
The President
Experience of the Incoming Head
Brinkman presently holds the role of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in various development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had assignments at other industry leaders.
Title Details and Vision
Project Ethos was revealed in last year alongside a public demo. Initially, 31st Union described the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the official summary reads. "Challenge the opponents with fresh skills, challenges, and challenges that change every round. Do you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, put it on the line, and pray your team can secure victory? The choice is in your hands."
Project Ethos lacks an official release date or supported systems, but players can anticipate additional details as development continues.
