In a unexpected partnership that challenges usual forecasts, the game developer has announced an digital partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected Thanksgiving event continues from November 25 through December 22, offering free extra story content for Shadows players.

Strange Questline Disclosed

According to the formal announcement, "A strange meeting pulls protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh adventure, where rumors of forbidden ceremonies and terrifying metamorphoses echo through the darkness." The storyline introduces a "unusually dressed woman named Ada" who charges the pair with journeying into the Crystal Cave—a important location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her ally from a hidden sect.

The adventure centers on "peculiar tests and a fearsome foe" and is open to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Familiar Locations and Changes

The trailer features the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The preview ends with a powerful scene showing a character, presumably the captive, changing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Exclusive Items and Additional Features

Players who finish the adventure will receive an exclusive katana alongside several items concealed throughout the area in secret chests. The update also includes purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-themed attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Exclusive implements
• Survey Corps vehicle

Latest Free Story Content

This patch also adds the game's third complimentary story episode, titled "The Enigma." This playful quest partners Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange signature skills: Naoe reveals a theatrical version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters non-lethal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "The Enigma" also contains a original environmental puzzle that may ultimately shed light on some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

Earlier Anime Partnerships

This marks hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with popular anime properties. The series previously showcased a 2020 cross-promotional story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla unofficially contained a quest that obviously echoed the popular series One-Punch Man.
